Code of Conduct

PROW is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion (or lack thereof), level of experience or technology choices. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form.

Everyone taking part in PROW, including attendees, speakers, partners, exhibitors, volunteers and the organizing team, is expected to follow this code of conduct. Conference participants who break these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference, without a refund, at the discretion of the organizers.

Where it applies

This code of conduct applies at every PROW venue and activity: talks, workshops, panels, the expo area, side events, parties and social events, as well as in the conference's online spaces, including the PROW app, attendee networking, audience Q&A and social media.

Expected behaviour

  • Be respectful and considerate towards other participants, their ideas and their boundaries.
  • Disagree constructively. Critique ideas, not people.
  • Make room for others in conversations, and in questions after talks.
  • Follow the instructions of the organizers, volunteers and venue staff.
  • Look out for one another. If you see someone in distress, or someone breaking this code, let a member of the PROW team know.

Unacceptable behaviour

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

  • offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality or religion;
  • sexual language and imagery in public spaces, including talks, slides and online channels;
  • deliberate intimidation, stalking or following;
  • harassing photography or recording;
  • sustained disruption of talks, workshops or other events;
  • inappropriate physical contact;
  • unwelcome sexual attention;
  • advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

Speakers and presentations

Speakers and workshop trainers are held to the same standard. Talks, slides, demos and workshop materials should not contain sexualised imagery, discriminatory jokes or content that demeans a group of people. If a topic genuinely requires sensitive material, please talk to the organizers before the conference.

Partners and exhibitors

Partners and exhibitors are subject to this code of conduct too. Booths, stands, giveaways and marketing materials should not use sexualised images, activities or other material, and booth staff, including volunteers, should not use sexualised clothing, uniforms or costumes, or otherwise create a sexualised environment.

Photos and recordings

PROW is photographed and filmed, and talks may be recorded and published. When taking your own photos or videos, be considerate: ask before photographing someone up close, and respect anyone who asks not to be photographed or asks you to delete a picture of them.

Reporting a problem

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concern, please contact a member of the PROW team or a volunteer immediately. You can also write to us at hello@prow.ro, or message us on WhatsApp at +40 774 866 110 (WhatsApp only, no calls).

All reports are handled confidentially. The team will listen, take your report seriously and help you: we can contact venue security or local law enforcement, arrange an escort, or otherwise help you feel safe for the rest of the conference. In an emergency, call 112.

Consequences

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including a warning, removal from a talk, workshop or event, expulsion from the conference without a refund, and refusal of entry to future PROW events.

We expect all participants to follow this code of conduct at every venue and in every conference-related online space. Thank you for helping make PROW a welcoming, friendly event for everyone.
